قصة سندريلا من أشهر الحكايات الشعبية، والقصة تبين عناصر الظلم والإجحاف، كما أنها تبين مكافئة المظلوم المنتصر، وأن الظلم مهما بلغ منتهاه ومهما بلغ من قوة فبالنهاية لابد له وأن ينهار حتماً.
وقصة سندريلا عرفت حول العالم بأشكال مختلفة ولكنها بالنهاية نفس الرواية، وتدور أحداث القصة حول فتاة تدعى سندريلا تعيش ظروف صعبة للغاية إذ تتحول حياتها فجأة من المعاناة الشديدة للرغد.
وسندريلا تعني مجازاً الشخص الذي يحقق نصراً بعد طول معاناة بشكل غير متوقع، كما أنها تعني فتاة الرماد كناية عن الرماد الذي كان ملتصقاً بها على الدوام وبثيابها الرثة نتيجة عملها الدائم.

أجبرتها زوجة أبيها على حياكة ثوبين لابنتيها، وكلفتها بالأعمال المنزلية بفرط حتى لا تتمكن من الذهاب معهن للحفل، كانت سندريلا فتاة في غاية الجمال حتى بالرغم من إقحامهما بالأعمال المنزلية التي لا تنتهي منها على الدوام وارتدائها للثياب الرثة إلا أن جمالها كان لايزال يشع في كل وقت وكل حين، كانت زوجة أبيها تغار من كونها أجمل من ابنتيها ومن جمالها الداخلي التي تتحلى به على الرغم من سوء معاملتهن إليها.

ودعتهن سندريلا على الرغم من كل الحزن الذي كانت تشعر به بداخلها، أما عنهن فلم يلتفتن إليها من الأساس، انسكبت الدموع من عينيها وفجأة ظهرت لها جنية من نور سطع أمام عينيها، طمأنتها وأخبرتها بأنها عرابتها الخيالية وأنها أتت لتحقق لها أمنيتها بذهابها للحفل؛ ظهرت علامات الحزن على وجه سندريلا وسألت العرابة: “بملابسي هذه؟!، أظنني لن يمكنني الذهاب للحفل على الإطلاق”.

سألتها العرابة في دهشة: “ألم ترينني خرجت لكِ من العدم؟!”
فأجابتها سندريلا: “نعم فعلتِ ذلك”.
فقالت العرابة: “إذاً كيف يمكنكِ أن تسألي سؤالاً كهذا؟!، انتظري وستري”.
وبالفعل نقرت العرابة على رأس سندريلا فتبدل حالها كليا، فازداد جمالها وإشراقها حيث ظهرت في ثوب لا يضاهيه ثوباً آخر في جماله، وكان أزرق اللون، وكان شعرها مرفوعا بواسطة شريط ذهبي.

كانت سندريلا في غاية الفرح والسرور لدرجة أنها شعرت بأنها في حلم وليست في حقيقة، نقرت العرابة على يقطينة فجعلتها عربة فاخرة، واستعانت بأصدقاء سندريلا الفئران فجعلتهم أربعة أحصنة بيضاء اللون، وبالإوزة فجعلتها سائق العربة وباثنين عظاءة جعلتهما حارسين.
وأول ما صعدت سندريلا العربة اكتشفت أنها حافية القدمين، فنقرت العرابة على قدميها فكان حذاء زجاجي خاص في قدمي سندريلا، وانطلقت لرحلتها نحو الحفل الملكي، ولكن العرابة أوصتها بأن كل ما فعلته سينتهي مفعوله السحري بحلول منتصف الليل، وأنها يتوجب عليها مغادرة الحفل عند آخر دقة من دقات الساعة الثانية عشرة.

كان الأمير حينها بالحفل يقف حزينا وكأن شيئا ما ينقصه لدرجة أن والدته الملكة تعجبت من أمره، فكيف أن يكون كل هذا العدد من العذارى الحسان أمام عينيه ويقف حزينا بهذا الشكل، وعلى الرغم من أخذه بنصح والدته إلا أنه لم يتمكن إلا من قول أهلا لكل فتاة منهن، ولكن عندما وصلت سندريلا للحفل فكانت تنزل درجات السلم كل العيون التفتت إليها، فجذبت الجميع بجمالها البهي، اتجه الأمير نحوها على الفور وسألها: “أشعر وكأنني أعرفكِ من قبل”.

ركضت سندريلا ترغب في الخروج من الحفل قبل آخر دقات الساعة كما حذرتها العرابة، وأثناء ركضها سقط من قدمها الحذاء فلم تعود لأخذه حيث أن الأمير كان يركض خلفها، صعدت للعربة وأمرت السائق بالإسراع في الحال والخروج بها من الحفل!
