The story of the giving tree and the boy
It is said that in a distant forest, long ago, there was a huge, young tree. This tree was a friend to a little boy who came every morning to play under its abundant shade.
يحكى أنه في غابة بعيدة في قديم الزمان كانت هناك شجرة ضخمة وصغيرة العمر، كانت هذه الشجرة صديقةً لولدٍ صغير يأتي في كل صباح ليلعب تحت ظلها الوفير.
The boy used to climb its branches, eat its delicious fruits, and enjoy playing beside it. As the years passed, the boy grew up, became busy with life, and moved away from the tree.
كان الولد يتسلق أغصانها، ويأكل من ثمارها الشهية، ويستمتع باللعب بجانبها، ومع مرور السنوات كبر الولد وانشغل بالحياة وابتعد عن الشجرة.
Days passed and the tree was eager every day to meet the boy and long to see him. One day he came to her and said: “I am in dire need of money to buy things I want.”
ومرت الأيام والشجرة كان في كل يوم تتوق للقاء الولد وتشتاق لرؤياه، وفي يوم من الأيام جاءها وقال لها: “إنني في أمس الحاجة إلى مال لأشتري أشياءً أرغب بها”.
The tree replied, “I don’t have any money, but you can take my fruits and sell them, and you will make as much money as you want.” The boy took all the fruits from the tree and left.
أجابته الشجرة: “إنني لا أملك مالاً، ولكن يمكنك أن تأخذ ثماري وتبيعها، وبذلك ستجني المال الذي تريد”، وبالفعل أخذ الولد كل الثمار من الشجرة ورحل.
Time passed without the boy returning, and the tree longed for him. After many years, he returned again and said to the tree, “I want to build a house.” The tree responded with love, “You can take some of my branches to build your house.” The boy took the branches and left. Each time the boy returned, the tree gave him more and more branches until only the trunk remained!
مر الوقت دون أن يعود الولد والشجرة تشتاق إليه، وبعد كثير من السنوات عاد مجددا، وقال للشجرة: “أريد أن أبني بيتاً”، فأجابته الشجرة بكل حب: “يمكنك أن تأخذ من أغصاني لتبني بيتك”، أخذ الولد الأغصان ورحل.
وفي كل مرة يعود فيها الولد، كانت الشجرة تعطيه المزيد والمزيد حتى لم يتبق منها سوى الجذع!
Finally, the boy returned, an old man, tired from all the years, and said to the tree, “I want a place to rest.” The tree replied, “You can sit on my trunk and rest.” So the old man sat beside the tree and remembered his childhood days.
في النهاية، عاد الولد وقد بات رجلا عجوزا أرهقه طول الدهر، وقال لها: “أريد مكاناً أرتاح فيه”، فأجابته الشجرة: “يمكنك الجلوس على جذعي والراحة”، وهكذا جلس الرجل العجوز بجانب الشجرة وتذكر بجانبها أيام الطفولة.
